Florida's First Lady Casey DeSantis is considering a run for governor after her husband has had his time in the job. She discussed the option of running in 2026 openly during a gathering filled with donors in Palm Beach County.

Since her husband, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, is facing a term limit in the Sunshine State, she may seek to run for governor in the next election, according to NBC News. There has been some speculation as to whether or not she would make the bid for the governor's office, but she is now seeing it as an option.

Five sources familiar with the First Lady of Florida's feelings on the matter spoke to the outlet for the report. One source told reporters, “I would say this: I have heard donors have been urging her to run and that while it’s not something she has wanted to do, they are causing her to at least stop and listen."

“It is a real possibility,” another source told the outlet; however, the source added it was unknown if that will be the most "probable scenario."

If DeSantis runs in the gubernatorial election, it could have a large impact on where her husband goes next, if he aims to run for president once again, or if he maintains his life in politics in some other fashion. Another Republican who has openly talked about running for governor once Ron DeSantis' tenure is up is Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who is a strong ally to President Donald Trump. It is also believed that Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson may be considering a run for the role.

Casey DeSantis was asked about the prospect of running for governor before the meeting with donors while talking to the Conservative Review, and responded, “I will tell you this, when people talk about me running for governor, I think it speaks highly about the governor himself."

“I think when people see me, it is because they are so happy about everything that this governor has done for the state of Florida. When people start talking about ‘Oh, you know, you should run,’ that’s because Gov. DeSantis is a rock star and that’s because people are so proud of everything that he’s done for this state," she added.
