Law enforcement officers made multiple arrests and irate holiday travelers were seen on video pushing through the blockade with luggage in hand to make their departing flights on time. The blockade caused miles-long backups and significant traffic delays.
Video posted to social media shows pro-Palestinian activists forming a blockade on the I-678 highway, impacting the entrance to the JFK International Airport on one of the busiest travel days of the year. They arrived with Palestinian flags and formed a human chain in front of vehicles as they demanded a "ceasefire" in Gaza.
The incident began around 11:30 am and lasted for approximately 20 minutes before officers with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's police department arrived on the scene to break up the demonstration.
A spokesperson for the Port Authority told the Messenger that more than 20 arrests were made on various offenses.
"26 arrests were made for disorderly conduct and impeding vehicular traffic," a spokesperson said, according to the outlet. "During the disruption, the Port Authority dispatched two airport buses, offering rides to travelers involved in the backup to allow them to reach the airport safely."
In addition to the JFK airport, pro-Palestinian agitators also formed a blockade at the entrance of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Wednesday.
"The LAPD is aware of an ongoing protest within the LAX area. Traffic in the area is currently impacted. Please avoid the area and continue to monitor for updates," the department wrote on X.
Fox News captured footage that showed protesters pulling barricades into the road and law enforcement officers chasing the pro-Palestinian agitators off the road. Police declared an unlawful assembly and multiple arrests were made, according to the network.
This comes as anti-Israel demonstrations continue to erupt across the United States. Pro-Palestinian agitators have caused significant disruptions in an effort to obtain a ceasefire in Gaza. These disruptions have often turned violent and have been going on since the Palestinian terrorist group, Hamas, launched a terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7 and slaughtered more than one thousand Israeli men, women, and children.
