Radio host and rapper Charlamagne tha God said Democrats no longer have the "moral high ground" after President Biden announced Sunday he had pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, despite previously declaring that he would not. Hunter had been convicted on federal gun and tax evasion charges earlier and was facing years in prison before his father issued him a blanket pardon.

The Breakfast Club host refuted President Biden's claim that Hunter was the target of politically motivated prosecution, which Biden used to justify a pardon.

"Hunter was singled out because he broke the law. That's number one. He was singled out because he had an illegal gun and tax evasion charges, not because he was the president's son. And I honestly don't care," Charlamagne said. "I just want Democrats to stop acting like they are on this moral high ground politically when they have shown us they're not. You know, whether it's skipping the primary process when Biden stepped down and things like Biden pardoning his son. Stop acting like y'all are the pure party and Republicans aren't. And it shows me elected officials can do whatever they want as long as they have the political will and courage to do it."

On Sunday, President Biden said Hunter was the victim of "selective prosecution" and had been singled out purely because he is his son. This is despite Hunter being prosecuted by the president's own Justice Department.

"No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son - and that is wrong," he wrote. "There has been an effort to break Hunter - who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me - and there's no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough."

President Biden and his White House had made it clear that he would not be pardoned, but it was later revealed that First Lady Jill Biden reportedly pressured her husband to pardon Hunter. Joe Biden has since been chastised for contradicting his remarks, while several others have commented that the pardon was not surprising given the familial element.
