Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has said that people should be "forcefully rising up" against the fraud case that has been brought against New York State Attorney General Letitia James. He claimed that the Department of Justice has been "made into Trump's attack dog."

Schumer was on MSNBC when he made the comments while speaking to Al Sharpton. "On Thursday, federal prosecutors indicted your and my state's Attorney General, Letitia James for alleged mortgage fraud. Criminal charges against former National Secretary John Bolton could come as early as next week. You said, 'This is what tyranny looks like.' Can you claim that?" Sharpton asked.

"Yes, they have made the Justice Department, which, under every other president, Democrat or Republican, pursued the law and went after people who broke the law. They have made it into Trump's personal attack dog. That is what dictatorships do," Schumer said. "That's what tyranny is all about. And they did it with Tish James. She had a legitimate case. She pursued it. She actually won. So Trump is now trying to get back at her."

Schumer then spoke about how Trump's first prosecutor was taken off James' case and replaced and said that the new lawyer will do "whatever he wants."

"I talked to Tish James a half hour after the indictment came through. She is strong, she is tough, she is resolute, and she is confident, as am I, that these charges will be rejected because they have no basis, no basis in law or in fact. So I respect her. She's my friend, and it's, you know, they're doing something vicious to her," Schumer added. It was revealed that the house that James bought that is involved in the mortgage fraud case was also serving as the home for James' niece, who the Daily Mail reports is being sought after for charges in North Carolina.

Schumer later claimed that "there is no case here" with James, and claimed, "It is just such a hallmark of tyrannical, autocratic dictatorship societies that they use the prosecutorial department as a political weapon. It is a disgrace. And every American, I don't care if you're Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, moderate people should be forcefully rising up against this."

James was indicted last week after the Department of Justice started investigating claims that James committed mortgage fraud to secure more favorable loans. The indictment charged her with bank fraud as well as false statements to a financial institution.
