New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh compared himself to respected NDP figures such as Jack Layton and Tommy Douglas, in a tweet published after the announcement of the Liberal-NDP agreement to keep Trudeau in power until 2025.

"New Democrats will always use our power to make life better for Canadians," tweeted Singh. "Tommy Douglas did it with Medicare. Jack Layton did it with affordable housing. Now we're using our power to deliver the biggest expansion of health care in a generation – with Dental Care and Pharmacare."

While not an official coalition government, the deal between the two parties will see a number of agreements between that will be prioritized, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

This includes "a better healthcare system," "making life more affordable for people" through housing initiatives and benefits, and "tackling the climate crisis and creating good paying jobs" my achieving net-zero by 2050 and creating "clean jobs."

During a press conference by the prime minister, Trudeau  said that the "supply and confidence agreement" would start today and will be in place until the end of this Parliament in 2025.

"What this means is that during this uncertain time, the government can function with predictability and stability, present and implement budgets, and get things done for Canadians," he said.

Trudeau said that the deal would help circumvent "toxic partisanship" in the House.

The deal, however, was heavily criticized by Interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen, who said that, in effect, Jagmeet Singh had become Canada's new Deputy Prime Minister, despite Canadians not voting for a NDP government.

"Canadians did not vote for an NDP government. This is little more than backdoor socialism. Trudeau is truly polarizing politics which is what he likes," said Bergen in a statement.
