CNN claims of Rep. Matt Gaetz begging Trump for pardon and/or meeting fall apart

CNN's anonymous "reliable sources" aren't holding up to scrutiny against the words of spokespeople for both former President Trump and Rep. Matt Gaetz.

At the Save America Summit this past weekend, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida defended himself from an onslaught of controversy involving allegations of sex trafficking and a 17-year-old girl.

With the blessing of summit officials he gave a speech denouncing the claims as conspiracy theories.

It starts off with the likes of CNN who claimed the Florida Congressman was DENIED a meeting with former President Trump at his Mar-a-Lago complex last week. It took ages for CNN to update the article with a statement from a Gaetz spokesperson.

It said: “"Rep. Gaetz was welcomed to Trump Doral this week and has not sought to meet with President Trump himself. Gaetz has "been mostly relaxing with his fiancée this week during recess."”

This in itself unraveled from an alleged blanket pardon request by Gaetz over the scandal involving his associate Joel Greenberg. But again Trump’s people strongly pushed back against that as well.

From Jason Miller: “"This @CNNstory is complete fake news. No such scheduling or meeting request was ever made, and therefore, it could never have been declined. Take note that this story has zero on-the-record sources. It’s literally made-up. We are demanding a full retraction. #FakeNews"”

Around the same time today, Politico released a groundbreaking story involving an unnamed associate of Joel Greenberg and Greenberg himself. The report details a heated exchange the two had leading up to the Florida Tax Collector's arrest for sex trafficking. The report claims it was Greenberg who was paranoid and the one pushing to ask Trump for a pardon. Greenberg bemoaned his Venmo history as a potential weakness leaving his exploits up for scrutiny.

“I have nothing to do with any of this and think it is incredibly uncool you are trying to lawyer me up to be a part of it, Joel,” the Politico source responded.
