In a video posted to social media Wednesday, Krasner mocked Jordan's inquiry as a "nastygram."
U.S. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan subpoenaed Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner over what the Ohio representative called his “office sanctuary policies.”
In a letter, Jordan said that Krasner's office had not sent the House Judiciary Committee a “single responsive document” since the committee requested information over concerns about the "preferential" treatment of undocumented immigrants.
The House Judiciary Committee released a press release Wednesday announcing and outlining the subpoena.
“Failing to prosecute or under-prosecuting foreign nationals so that immigration consequences can be avoided implicates Congress's clear power over immigration, which the Supreme Court repeatedly has recognized,” the release reads.
“Krasner's pro-illegal alien policies appear intentionally designed to thwart this authority. Moreover, preferential treatment of foreign nationals by his office may also violate federal civil rights laws. Rather than provide responsive materials or legal justification for his refusal to cooperate with the Committee, Krasner has only made bizarre and baseless demands and conditions on his cooperation with the Committee's oversight.”
In the subpoena, Jordan said Krasner had responded to the committee's requests on at least two occasions. Jordan said Krasner's May 18 response dismissed the committee's inquiry as “baseless” and lacking a valid legislative purpose, claims Jordan rejected. He also criticized a second response sent July 7, accusing Krasner of making “ad hominem attacks” and imposing “bizarre and baseless demands and conditions” on cooperating with the committee's oversight.
In a video posted to social media Wednesday, Krasner mocked Jordan's inquiry as a “nastygram” and renewed his call for a public hearing.
“And I said give us a public hearing, let us go,” Krasner said. “Where's my public hearing?”
“He would rather accuse from a distance, and then do dirt in the dark, than do anything in public,” Krasner added.
