"It's not something you typically see in American political rallies."
This was falsely interpreted as a salute to dead Nazi authoritarian genocidal maniac Adolph Hitler, who led Germany and his Third Reich to defeat at the hands of the Allied Forces headed up by England and the United States.
"Some elections are important, some are not. But this one, this one really mattered and I just want to say thank you for making it happen," Musk said. "It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is assured." CNN reporters speaking from the press area of the arena replayed the gesture, calling it a salute.
"I just wanna look at that salute he gave, again," said a reporter, "just in case anybody missed it, we'll show it again. He's just wrapped up here, you can here the—" CNN replayed Musk signing off, touching his heart and extending his hand to the crowd.
"I think our viewers are smart," another reporter chimed in "and they can take a look at that, but it's not something you typically see in American political rallies." They went on to indicate that Musk was giving this salute without ac
AOC responded to the ADL, which had unequivocally said that it was "not a Nazi salute" but an "awkward gesture. "Just to be clear," the New York congresswoman said, "you are defending a Heil Hitler salute that was performed and repeated for emphasis and clarity. People can officially stop listening to you as any sort of reputable source of information now. You work for them. Thank you for making that crystal clear to all."
Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy lost it, too saying "There's no way to sugarcoat this. This is the Nazi salute. This is the Nazi f---ing salute."
Musk visited Israel after the October 7 attacks by Hamas and toured the area accompanied by Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu. But one post for Murphy wasn't enough and he went on to say "Its not a gaffe. It's back to back, clear as day Nazi salutes. And how does this not make sense? Did we not just watch the campaign Trump ran? Have we all not seen the antisemitism in MAGA? Feels like this is all we should be talking about tomorrow."
Libs of TikTok noted that the so-called "salute" has been given repeatedly in American politics, it turns out, notably by Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Kamala Harris.
Andy Ngo pointed out that the notion that Musk gave the forbidden salute was "an example of how mainstream media launder lies to smear and hurt their targets." He quoted a post from PBS that said Musk "gave what appeared to be a fascist salute on Monday..." They went on to say that Musk put "a hand on his chest" and then raised it "in a salute that appeared similar to the 'Sieg Heil' used by Nazis at their victory rallies.
"I can confidently say that every single person currently claiming that Elon Musk gave a Nazi salute is stupid and should not be taken seriously ever again," Meghan Murphy said.
Musk, a former Democrat, responded as well, saying "Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired."
The leftist, Democrat mantra since Trump first ran for office in 2016 is to refer to him as Hitler and his supporters as Nazis. While it had previously been an effective modus operandi to discredit their GOP political opponents, that rote rhetoric was not well received by the time the 2024 election rolled around. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and pretty much every legacy media outlet and Democrat intoned the Third Reich as a means to discredit Trump, but having lived through the first administration without the emergence of Nazism, it was hard for many to believe that it would suddenly occur this time.
