Erin Lee, the mother of a 12-year-old student at Wellington Middle school, has told the media that her daughter was told in class by a teacher that her family was "not safe" for her, and that she may be transgender.
The shocked Lee said during an interview that the teacher, Kimberly Chambers, asked the children "who they were sexually attracted to," and said that, if they are not comfortable with their bodies, "they may be transgender."
According to the Daily Mail, "Lee also alleged the youngsters were even asked to keep details of the meeting a secret and warned their parents were not safe."
The class in question used a model called the "Genderbread person activity," as is depicted in the image above. The class was conducted in lieu of a scheduled art class, with Chambers brought in as a guest teacher.
Lee's daughter appears to have been specially invited, along with other students. However, the true nature of the class was kept hidden from both parents and initially even from the students. They were previously told that it was a special "art group" by art teacher Jenna Riep.
Because of these, the Lee parents gave permission for their daughter to join, but quickly noticed something was not right after picking their daughter up that day.
"When we picked her up from that program after school, we could see on her face that something was incredibly wrong," Lee commented, continuing:
"They told the kids that if they're not fully comfortable in their body, then they are transgender. So, [they] essentially told my daughter if she's not 100-percent comfortable in her body, that she is transgender."
Lee went on, "She then told the kids that parents aren't safe, and that it's OK to lie to them about where they are in order to attend this meeting."
