CTV News is admitting that it ran with "factually incorrect" information that caused "harm" to the political career of then-Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown in 2018.

The now-Brampton Mayor and potential Conservative Party leadership hopeful and the broadcaster, owned by Bell Media, came to an agreement following an $8 million defamation suit.

According to the Toronto Star: "CTV acknowledged the story, which alleged sexual impropriety with two women, 'required correction.'"

Brown denied all allegations against him.

"On Jan. 24, 2018, four months before a provincial election, CTV broadcast a segment concerning Patrick Brown. Key details provided to CTV for the story were factually incorrect and required correction," a statement agreed upon by the two parties reads.

"CTV National News regrets including those details in the story and any harm this may have caused to Mr. Brown."

Both Brown and CTV said they would have no further comment on the settlement or any other terms, the Star reports.

Brown has said publicly that he is exploring options around running for the federal Conservatives' leadership position.
