Actor RJ Mitte, who played the son of Walter White in the hit TV show Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34. Mitte played Walter Jr on the show, which ran for 5 seasons, with both the character and the actor having cerebral palsy. It was repoted that he died by suicide though he had just signed on for a new film and was promoting a project called "Talking to Strangers." Further details about his death have not yet been released.
Mitte’s reps confirmed the news Monday, per Deadline. They said he died in Brownsville, Texas, and while no cause of death was given, a county official told TMZ that Mitte died by suicide. They said in a statement, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte.”
In addition to his acting career, which included roles on Switched at Birth, Now Apocalypse, and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!), Mitte was a disability rights activist, serving as ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s as well as president of The Mitte Foundation.
“RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. on AMC’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series Breaking Bad. Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion,” the statement continued.
“Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, supporting philanthropic efforts and community initiatives, while using his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities. At this time, we ask people to respect the privacy of RJ Mitte’s family and close ones.”
Mitte had announced his engagement to his girlfriend Kennedy Suarez in October of 2025. He told People at the time, “I'm thrilled to have found my person, my partner in life who makes me want to be better, no matter what we're doing. Kennedy is my everything and I can't wait to officially start our life together and see what adventures life takes us on next.”
