In season 8, episode 3 of the reality TV show I Am Jazz, an 18-year-old trans-identified male announces plans to go into sex work as a way to raise money for "gender-affirming" breast augmentation surgery, to the approval of Jazz’s mother.
Jaclyn is a friend of Jazz Jennings, the star of the show who shot to fame after Jazz’s parents allowed the social transition and subsequent medical sex change of their gender-nonconforming child to become a global spectacle.

Millions of people all over the world tuned in to watch as the young male child adopted a female name and female pronouns, was chemically castrated with a combination of experimental puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, and eventually underwent a vaginoplasty surgery resulting in serious complications
In this episode of season 8, Jazz and Jaclyn are at the beauty salon getting waxed when Jaclyn tells Jazz about being unemployed after having to quit a job due to female coworkers objecting to sharing a bathroom with a male. Jaclyn claims these coworkers were also informing customers that Jaclyn was male.
Later in the show, while shopping for cowboy boots with Jazz and Jazz’s mother, Jeanette, Jaclyn is complaining about how difficult it is to find another job with the upcoming breast surgery so close.
“So I’m thinking about doing the frisky modelling online. You know what I mean?” says Jaclyn acknowledging that it’s “definitely something that people kind of judge you for.”
Jeanette later says if Jaclyn feels good enough about her body to do that, she has a lot of respect for the decision.
“I think there are a lot of men, maybe women, that are super attracted to women that have not had bottom surgery,” Jeanette added. “That’s their thing. People have fetishes. I went out with a toe sucker.”
The whole episode centres around 20-year-old Jazz preparing to go on a date, which Jazz feels enormous anxiety about. Jazz has not gone on a date in four years, since the vaginoplasty surgery, and recent experience on dating apps has been very demoralising for the reality TV star who is now obese due to suffering from a severe eating disorder.
Jeanette was so concerned about Jazz dating that she insisted Jazz’s brother arrange to double date. Jazz objects, pointing out that Jeanette supports Jaclyn, who is two years younger, going into sex work but doesn’t trust Jazz to go on one date.
While helping Jazz get ready for the date, Jeanette notes her child’s innocence and likens Jazz to a teenager
“You’re like a little teenager,” say Jeanette after Jazz tells her about being nervous about a first kiss. “You’re like I was in 7th grade.”
“I’m very unconventional,” replies Jazz. “My life has been very unconventional. In school, boys didn’t give me attention because I was transgender. No guy wanted to date a girl who had a penis. It was hard.”
While being perfectly fine with Jazz’s friend going into sex work to raise money for an elective cosmetic surgery, Jeanette is a helicopter parent constantly worrying about how Jazz will navigate the world as an adult following the decision Jeanette and her husband Greg made all those years ago.
