"He used to have all patriotic stuff on Facebook, he was 100 percent loving the country," Livelsberger's uncle said.
According to a report from the New York Post, sources familiar with the investigation told the outlet that he and Jennifer Davis split after an argument about infidelity the day after Christmas. He and his Davis had a baby daughter together, but she reportedly accused him of cheating.
He left Colorado and rented the Cybertruck, where he then brought it in front of the Trump hotel, shot himself in the head, and blew up the vehicle with explosives in the bed of the truck, police said. Sheriff Kevin McMahill said that while there is substantial evidence suggesting that Livelsberger was the driver, the body was burned beyond recognition and officials are still awaiting confirmation through DNA testing or medical records. The driver was identified through tattoos, photos taken at charging stations, a passport, and a driver’s license.
Livelsberger was an active-duty Green Beret at the time but was on approved leave from Germany. In the days before he killed himself, Livelsbereger sent a number of odd text messages to an ex-girlfriend about the Cybertruck. He sent the texts to Alicia Arritt, who shared screenshots of the conversation with reporters. In one he said, "I rented a Tesla Cybertruck. It's the sh*t." He added in another, "I feel like Batman or halo," referring to the videogame. They had dated in between his first and second marriage from 2018 to 2021.
Livelsberger's family was reportedly stunned over the incident and said that he was a "big Trump supporter" and had loved the military, per the Daily Mail. He was described as a "Rambo-type" by his uncle, Dean Livelsberger, who also added that he was "100 percent a patriot."
"He used to have all patriotic stuff on Facebook, he was 100 percent loving the country," he added. "He loved Trump, and he was always a very, very patriotic soldier, a patriotic American. It’s one of the reasons he was in Special Forces for so many years. It wasn’t just one tour of duty."
Dean found it odd that Livelsberger used such an amateur explosive setup and added that he was a "very skilled warrior" who could have made an explosive that was more "sophisticated." The explosive devices found in the car after the incident included gasoline, mortars, and fireworks, and when it was set off, seven others around the Cybertruck were wounded. Livelsberger was the only fatality and reportedly shot himself in the head prior to the explosion.
Federal authorities have been investigating the bombing as a politically motivated incident, since it was carried out in a Tesla outside the Trump hotel. Elon Musk has been working closely with Trump this election cycle.
Although Livelsberger served in the same military base as the New Orleans terrorist, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the FBI has found no "definitive link" between the two attacks. Jabbar had posted a series of videos to Facebook prior to driving into a crowd in New Orleans on New Year's Day, killing over a dozen and injuring dozens more. In the videos, he made his motives clear, that he was inspired by ISIS in the attack. The motive for Livelsberger, however, is not as certain.
