The audience of the left-wing Daily Show cheered and clapped for videos of Tesla cars being burned in parking lots with Molotov cocktails as well as vandalism of Tesla dealerships as host Jordan Klepper displayed the acts of domestic terrorism in a segment.

Klepper himself, who railed against Musk as well as the car company, was even taken aback, saying, "Wow, you guys like petty acts of domestic terrorism."

Backlash against the audience ensued on X, with one user saying, "They're cheering as if their team has just scored a goal. When the right gets angry with a company we just stop buying their product."

"The audience are pro-terrorism. This is horrible," another user said, replying to the audience's reaction.

During the show, Klepper addressed the violence, and though he said people should not be blowing up the cars, he claimed that some have been leaving "helpful messages" to indicate why they have been burning Teslas and targeting dealerships.

He then displayed dealerships getting vandalized with the words "nazi" and "scum" along with other expletives. Similar examples have been reported around the country. He reacted to Musk going on Sean Hannity earlier this week, where the entrepreneur said that those being targeted have not done "anything harmful."

“I shouldn’t have to explain this to Elon, but it’s not about the Teslas," Klepper said, later adding "I don’t think people, though, are mad at you because of the Teslas, Elon. If I were to hazard a guess about why they’d be mad, it might be because, in the last several weeks, you fired tens of thousands of federal workers, you made cuts to veterans’ care, lifesaving foreign aid and food banks.”

Musk has been directed by the Trump administration, to cut out waste, fraud, and abuse of federal spending by the government through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Multiple agencies have had thousands of workers cut as a result, and legal challenges have subsequently come against the Trump administration because of the mass firings.

In recent weeks, anger and protest against Musk and DOGE have escalated to violent attacks of arson and vandalism in locations all across the United States at Tesla charging stations, dealerships, and Americans' individual Tesla cars. Some have been seen internationally as well. In Berlin, Germany, for example, four Teslas were burned in the city last week.

A doxing site called “Dogequest” has also popped up, claiming to have every Tesla owners’ location in America. The website’s cursor is a Molotov cocktail, and the website’s owners have said they will remove Tesla owners’ personal information only when they sell their cars.
