“I think that the dam has broken and that more and more people will come out publicly."
The comments from Tilson came during an interview on CNN when he was talking about Biden's debate performance last week against Donald Trump. The 45th president quickly declared victory over Biden after the debate.
“I think that the dam has broken and that more and more people will come out publicly. I can tell you with certainty that as recently as last Friday and Saturday after the debate, there were quite a few people who felt like it was just an off night. As of today, I can‘t find anybody — and I am a hard, hardcore Democrat and Biden supporter,” Tilson told host Erin Burnett on Wednesday.
“I love Joe Biden. I respect the fact that he‘s an optimist, that he‘s a fighter, and that has served him well in the 52 years since he was first elected to the Senate. But it‘s different today, I‘m afraid. The ship has sailed and there is basically almost no support remaining for him as a candidate," he added. Tilson said that he didn't have anything against Biden personally, but added, "Nobody thinks he can beat Trump."
Tilson said that he thought people around the country, as well as those in the Democrat Party, have reached a "tipping point" when it comes to their support of Biden as a candidate. Following Biden's poor performance during the debate, Biden-Harris campaign staffers held a meeting with donors in an attempt to reassure them that Biden could stick it out.
