Dem strategist claims North Carolina Trump supporters will have harder time casting ballots due to Hurricane Helene, 'upscale,' 'liberal' voters will 'figure out a way to vote'

Democratic strategist David Axelrod slighted Trump supporters during a podcast appearance, stating that “upscale” “liberal” residents of North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helen were “probably going to figure out a way to vote” while Trump voters won’t be as resourceful or capable to do so. The former Obama chief strategist appeared on the Hacks on Tap podcast, where he spoke about the damage caused by Helene and how it could possibly impact the election.

Speaking of Asheville, North Carolina, he said that voters in that part of the state would be smart enough to get their votes in for Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Those voters in Asheville are — they’re, you know, the kind of voters who will figure out a way to vote," Axelrod said. "You know, they’re upscale, kind of liberal voters, and they’re probably going to figure out a way to vote,” he said.

“I’m not sure a bunch of these folks who’ve had their homes and lives destroyed elsewhere in western North Carolina — in the mountains there — are gonna be as easy to wrangle for the Trump campaign," Axelrod continued.

"I don’t know how that’s all going to play out, but it’s an unpredictable element in North Carolina that has made it maybe a little more interesting" in the run-up to the election.

Axelrod expressed concern for Democrats, stating that "northern-tier battleground states other than Wisconsin are scary" and "you can't count on them." He emphasized that Harris "needs to find an insurance policy" and a "second act" as the election campaign enters its final stretch.

In response to backlash from commentators online, Axelrod attempted to get the attention off of him by stating that Trump was putting out “utter lies."

"It is remarkable the degree to which Trump can brazenly sell utter lies, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Latest: Hurricane-plagued states of GA and NC (battleground states, for those who aren't following along) were deprived of rescue money because immigrants had taken it all. None of it even remotely true."
