Some Democrats are growing skittish about what could happen in a second Biden versus Trump election.
NBC News acknowledged this and even admitted that its own polling, which in the past claimed that Biden held a 10-point lead over Trump, has now shrunk by a massive six percent, meaning any gaps between the two now fall within the survey's margin of error.
At least several Democrats are now speculating about the possibility of Trump winning in 2024. Some believe Trump is an easier candidate to beat than others, but others are growing skittish about what could happen in a second Biden versus Trump election.
Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) believes that people are not thinking seriously enough about the possibility. He said, “If you think otherwise, you have literally had your head buried in the sand."
“Are Democrats discounting the threat that Trump poses even with his series of indictments? Absolutely,” said Chris Kofinis, a political strategist. He insisted that even with the indictment, the candidates have "statistical ties across almost every single recent poll."
Faiz Shakir, who helped run the Bernie Sanders 2020 campaign, agreed. He thinks Trump's agility in the political game should not be an afterthought even if Biden leads as of now.
Shakir said, "Trump is so amoral that he’s able to reinvent himself on issue after issue and deceive enough people to feel like they might give him a second look, at least in some critical battleground states." He said that Trump has done this before on the issue of abortion after the midterms.
Trump appears to be the favorite out of all the Republican candidates at this point. An NBC poll has him leading Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by 29 points, with the former president leaps and bounds ahead of any other candidate in the Republican primary.
