A group of employees at the Department of Justice (DOJ) sent a letter to the Biden administration demanding that the federal government grant workers paid time off so they can travel out-of-state to receive abortions.
The letter sent by DOJ Gender Equality Network (DOJ GEN) asks the Biden administration to take "swift" action and require all federal agencies to grant employees "administrative leave" if out-of-state travel is required to receive an abortion following the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade.
The letter states that there are currently 150,000 federal employees in Texas and Mississippi, two states that have "effectively no in-state abortion access today." There are also 227,000 federal workers that live in states with "trigger laws" in place that will either restrict or prohibit abortion if Roe v. Wade is reversed, according to Life Site News.
In addition, "There are also 290,000 federal employees in nine more states with abortion bans that could become enforceable, and 131,000 in four states that are expected to ban abortion as quickly as possible," the letter states.
Employees with DOJ GEN compared the request to the Biden administration's current policy that grants workers paid time off to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
"Likewise, the Administration should be able to provide federal workers with a reasonable amount of administrative leave to access reproductive healthcare for their health, safety, and physical and mental wellbeing," the letter continues.
The letter mentioned that private companies, like Tesla, Microsoft, and Amazon, have made announcements following the SCOTUS Roe v. Wade draft leak opinion that they will pay travel costs for their employees if they have to cross state lines to abort their babies.
The final ruling on Roe v. Wade is set to be determined in the near future, and according to a leaked memo from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Biden administration is preparing for nationwide violence.
