Former CNN anchor Don Lemon took a trip to New Jersey beach capital Atlantic City,  where he was surprised to discover that many beachgoers he spoke to were supporting former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election over VP Kamala Harris.

In a video shared on Lemon’s TikTok account, voters from various demographics in Atlantic City expressed their belief that the former president would win a second term and voiced their support for him. One individual explained his support by saying, "Four years ago it was a lot better. I made a lot more money than I do now."

Lemon attempted to fact-check the man’s perspective and personal experiences by saying, “I know you feel that way but that’s not actually what the record shows. The economy is actually better under Biden.” The man responded by immediately laughing at Lemon’s remark.

“No I’m serious,” Lemon insisted after the man continued laughing.

A female respondent also told Lemon, “I know nobody likes him but we had good times with Donald Trump. The economy was good, life was good.”

Throughout the interactions, Lemon appeared surprised by the responses from those who felt the economy was better under Trump than under Biden-Harris. While Lemon dismissed these beliefs, he did not present concrete data to counter their views.

The Biden-Harris administration has faced ongoing criticism for its economic policies, particularly in recent days. Recently, the unemployment rate has risen to its highest level since October 2021, when the pandemic was still impacting workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Additionally, prices for groceries, gas, and fast food have all risen significantly due to inflation. Vice President Kamala Harris herself acknowledged to supporters on Friday that the cost of food has become too high, with some products now costing 50 percent more than before the pandemic, when Trump was still in office.

Voters have continued to express confidence that Trump is the better candidate when it comes to handling the economy. According to a recent poll by the Wall Street Journal, Trump had a commanding 12-point lead over Harris on economic issues. A New York Times poll from July also found that 75 percent of voters rated the current economic conditions negatively.
