"You will turn your Country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again!"
"Congratulations to Javier Milei on a great race for President of Argentina," Trump posted to Truth Social.
"The whole world was watching! I am very proud of you. You will turn your Country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again!"
Milei is widely considered to be a right-wing populist figure and is often compared to Trump.
The Argentine presidential-elect saw a strong showing during the election, commanding 55.7 percent of the vote while his opponent, Economy Minister Sergio Massa, pulled in only 44.3 percent with 99.4 percent counting, reported Associated Press.
As he delivered his victory speech, Milei declared that the "reconstruction of Argentina begins today."
“Argentina’s situation is critical. The changes our country needs are drastic. There is no room for gradualism, no room for lukewarm measures,” Milei declared to a crowd of supporters, who chanted "Liberty, liberty!" and "Let them all leave" in a reference to the nation’s political class.
Massa conceded defeat on the night of the election.
Milei's election comes as Argentina has suffered from its worst economic crisis in decades, with campaign promises including plans to cut the size and scope of government as well as abolish the central bank. Inflation in Argentina has gone upwards of 140 percent, and approximately 4 in 10 of the nation's people live in poverty. Many in the nation have blamed Massa for his inability to stop the surging prices.
The 53-year-old economist who has also been a television pundit has laid into parties on both the right and left, and symbolized his campaign with a chainsaw used to represent the plan to cut costs.
Aside from Trump, conservatives who celebrated Milei's win include former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Daily Wire cofounder Ben Shapiro, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
