Eagles fan takes matter into his own hands, covers up 'fraudulent' Kamala ads in Philly

"We all know Philadelphia is the battleground for Pennsylvania. And these type of lies are the things that prevent honesty in the election process."

A fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team and not of Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris has been covering up “counterfeit political” advertisements that purport to show the NFL team endorsing Harris.

The man, identified only as Joe, spoke with Fox 29’s Steve Keeleyd on Monday as he was busy covering up a poster that showed the vice president wearing an Eagles helmet alongside the caption, “Kamala. Official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles.”

To cover up the “counterfeit” advertisement, Joe taped up papers displaying a screenshot of the NFL team saying that they were working to have the Harris advertisement removed.

“Whoever put this inside this casing did several things,” Joe told Keeley. He said his concern was not that someone was "expressing an opinion," but that "this person is lying to everyone that comes and uses this stop,” said Joe, who has added that he is both an Eagles fan and a Republican voter. "That’s what I’m very concerned about, the fact that they’re spreading lies that the Philadelphia Eagles endorsed Kamala Harris as a candidate for President of the United States."

“We all know Philadelphia is the battleground for Pennsylvania. And these type of lies are the things that prevent honesty in the election process,” Joe told Keeley. "And I think that's what we have to promote. The integrity of the process, everyone comes out to vote after they decide who to vote for."

He noted that the Eagles had come out with a statement on the matter earlier in the day. The team said in a statement, "We are aware counterfeit political ads are being circulated and are working with our advertising partner to have them removed." Joe added that given the Labor Day holiday, no one was on that day to come and remove the poster, which was behind a glass casing that required an Allen wrench to open.

Joe also noted that the election signs have the “PhiladelphiaVote.com” and “EaglesVote.com” logo on them, which "give off the impression that the Eagles are officially promoting this display." He said by placing the Eagles' X statement over the advertisement, he hoped to point out that it was a "false advertisement."

“We need the truth out of people, our candidates, as well as the people that work for the candidates. And that’s the whole point right here. To try and get everyone to see that Philadelphia is being deceived,” Joe insisted.

Recent polls indicate the presidential race is close but former President Donald Trump is now leading Harris among men by 5 percentage points, according to an ABC/Ipsos poll.

The Harris campaign has spent $47 million more in its first month of the presidential race on digital advertising than the Trump campaign. It used that money not just in battleground states like Pennsylvania but also in blue states like New York and California that Trump is unlikely to flip.
