"Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it," Musk wrote on X, accompanied by laughing emojis.
Following Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong changing the lyrics to one of the bands hits, American Idiot, to target Donald Trump and his millions of supporters during ABC’s annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, X owner Elon Musk criticized the band for "raging for" the "machine."
"Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it," Musk wrote on X, accompanied by laughing emojis.
While on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the rock group inserted "I'm not a part of the MAGA agenda," in place of the original, "I'm not a part of the redneck agenda."
A small cheer was heard from the California crowd after Armstrong belted out the anti-Trump lyrics.
Green Day has taken aim at Trump before, releasing a t-shirt in August after Trump’s iconic mugshot was released with the word "nimrod" written in a circle covering his face. They donated the proceeds of all sales to charity.
According to Fox News, this isn’t the first time that Green Day has used the MAGA lyric. During the 2019 iHeartRadio festival, the "MAGA Agenda" lyrics were added.
During the performance of "Bang Bang" at the 2016 American Music Awards, Armstrong chanted on stage, "No Trump, no KKK no Fascist USA," a popular chant at far-left protests
