"At some point maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members."
Clinton, who infamously labelled the half of the country that voted for Trump as "deplorable," claimed that those who stand with former president Donald Trump and his Make America Great Again agenda were stuck in a "cult."

Clinton said that there have been "very strong partisans in both parties in the past," and that this has led to "very bitter battles over all kinds of things" from gun control to climate change.
"There wasn't this little tail of extremism wagging the dog of the Republican Party as it is today," she continued, "and sadly, so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump."
Clinton suggested that the former president has "no credibility left by any measure" and "is only in it for himself."
"When do they break with him?" she asked. "At some point maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members."
When pressed by Amanpour on exactly what that would entail, Clinton said, "we have to defeat them."
Following the interview, the Trump campaign released a statement slamming his former rival over her comments.
"President Trump has said countless times that they are only coming after him, because he stands in their way from coming after you — and Hillary Clinton just confirmed that to be true," his team said.
"Tens of millions of Americans will reject the Democrat Party's re-education camp agenda in November 2024 when we make Donald Trump the 47th President of the United States."
Those sentiments were shared by many on social media, some of whom likened Clinton's suggestion that Trump supporters were in need of "deprogramming" to the re-education camps for political dissidents in former and current authoritarian regimes.
