“What's happening is they're training the AI to lie… To lie and yes. Yeah, exactly. To either comment on some things, not comment on other things. But not to say what the data actually demands that it say.”
Musk also said that he plans to create an alternative to the AI chatbot ChatGPT called “TruthGPT,” to be a "maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” adding that an AI that wants to understand humanity is less likely to destroy it.
The Associated Press discovered a Nevada business filing with the secretary of state’s office, Musk has incorporated a new business called X.AI Corp.
The Space X CEO has also advocated for the regulation of artificial intelligence, calling AI “more dangerous” than cars or rockets, and said it has the potential to destroy humanity.
“AI is perhaps more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production in the sense that it has the potential, however, small one may regard that probability, but it is non-trivial -- it has the potential of civilizational instruction.”
“You know, there’s movies like ‘Terminator’ but it wouldn’t quite happen like 'Terminator' because the intelligence would be in the data centers.”
Carlson asked, “You think that’s real? It is conceivable that A.I. could take control and reach a point where you couldn’t turn it off and it would be making decisions for people?”
Musk answered, “Yeah, absolutely.”
Musk added his concern that ChatGPT “is being trained to be politically correct.”
“What's happening is they're training the AI to lie… To lie and yes. Yeah, exactly. To either comment on some things, not comment on other things. But not to say what the data actually demands that it say.”
The billionaire was one of the early investors in OpenAI, the startup behind ChatGPT, and co-chaired its board when it was a non-profit research lab. “I came up with the name and the concept,” Musk told Carlson, adding that OpenAI is now closely tied to Microsoft and is no longer a nonprofit.
