On Saturday evening, SpaceX founder Elon Musk said that his company's Starlink satellite internet service is now active in Ukraine in an effort to help alleviate connectivity issues facing the nation amidst the Russian invasion.
Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov called Musk out on Twitter Saturday morning, telling him that while his space company successfully lands rockets, "Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people."
The Vice Prime Minister urged Musk to set up Starlink access in the nation.
Later that day, Musk responded to the tweet, stating that Starlink service was now active in the nation, and that more user terminals were on their way.
The Starlink system consists of a network of around 2,000 satellites in low Earth orbit, providing high-speed, low-latency broadband internet access by connecting with user terminals around the globe.
Starlink says the service "is ideally suited for areas where connectivity has been unreliable or completely unavailable. People across the globe are using Starlink to gain access to education, health services and even communications support during natural disasters."
According to global internet monitor NetBlocks, internet outages or disruptions have been seen in several cities across Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol.
