On Thursday, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) put a tweet out, extolling his own bravery in the face of what many Democrats are now calling an "insurrection" exactly a year before, on Jan. 6 2021.

"At this time a year ago I stood on the House Floor w/ @RubenGallego and had a gas mask in my hand, listening to an officer tell us to follow an evacuation route. My coat was off in case we had to fight," said Swalwell on Twitter:

Immediately, critics had a field day with what they considered to be Swalwell's apparent lack of real-life bravado, and his apparent tone-deafness regarding the "gas mask", considering he had previously had a moment of flatulence live on MSNBC:

"No offense, bro, but I think you'd be better off farting on people rather than fighting," tweeted Ballistic Social's Caleb Hull, referring to the 2019 MSNBC incident, which is also reproduced on video here below:

Podcaster and writer for Town Hall Derek Hunter likewise commented, "I have been told that was the darkest, most violent day in all of human history. How'd you casually stroll out of a war zone without even wrinkling your chinos?"

Swalwell had previously made the news for his involvement (which was probably of an intimate and romantic nature) with a now-known Chinese spy. He has also notably been caught out maskless in the state of Florida after having publicly criticized "red states" for "prolonging" the pandemic.
