ESPN broadcaster Mark Jones falsely claimed on air on Wednesday that Jacob Blake was unarmed when he was shot by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Outkick reports.

Jacob Blake was shot in the back by police while resisting arrest during an encounter with officers. Despite widespread media reports that he was unarmed, he was, in fact, in possession of a knife during the altercation. Blake has admitted this freely.

The shooting provoked a large backlash in Kenosha, partially fueled by the false claim that Blake was unarmed. A riot broke out in the city which resulted in the deaths of two people and over $50 million in property damage.

Jones has attained controversy previously for his stances on political issues. In the past he has referred to former President Donald Trump as a "white supremacist terrorist" and has celebrated the death of Rush Limbaugh.

He has also accused police of wanting to shoot him.

ESPN has not commented on Jones' behaviour.
