According to Ngo's civil complaint, numerous Antifa members including Evans attacked Ngo, throwing projectiles, “milkshakes” and containers, in addition to punching and kicking him. They also struck him on the head and face with plywood hard-edged sign placards and carbon-hardened tactical gloves. Ngo was hospitalized for a brain bleed over the assault. Evans was recorded on video on the same day bashing a man on the head from behind using a weapon or tool.
In May 2022, Evans was given a sweetheart deal by district attorney Mike Schmidt's office where he was allowed to plead guilty to attempt to commit a class B felony in exchange for no prison time. Charges of assault and unlawful use of a weapon were dismissed. He was sentenced to 36 months probation, which was violated twice in November 2022 and January 2023. He served only seven days in county jail for the second probation violation.
Joseph Evans was given a sweetheart plea deal in Multnomah County
On July 14, the court in Multnomah County granted an order of default against defendants Evans, Madison Lee Allen and Corbyn/Katherine Belyea in Ngo's lawsuit.
TPM can exclusively report that Joseph Christian Evans was allowed by the Multnomah County court to legally change his name to an anti-police statement and also legally change his sex, despite having pending litigation at the time.
In December 2022, Judge Patrick W. Henry signed an order finalizing that Evan's name is now Sammica Overkill Schott-Deputy ("shot deputy") and his legal sex is now "nonbinary."
Evans attested to "undergoing surgical, hormonal, or other appropriate treatment for the purpose of affirming gender identity.” According to court filings, Evans has addresses in Portland and Tucson, Ariz.
