On Thursday, 24-year-old Sahara Dula intentionally ran over a police officer after he tried to prevent her from going the wrong way on Park Avenue in New York City.

In a video posted on X, Dula is turning into the wrong way of traffic, when a police officer is in the middle of the road trying to direct her to the correct lane. Just after someone is heard yelling "be careful, be careful," Dula is seen slamming the gas and hitting the officer.

According to the New York Post, the officers had part of the road closed off so they could investigate a robbery at a high-end clothing store nearby when the incident happened.

Court papers revealed that the young woman told investigators "I wanted to go straight, and he wouldn’t move, so I hit him. I did it on purpose."

After the incident Dula screamed "F*ck these cops! He wouldn't move!" for a few minutes. “F*ck these cops, it’s a lesson to him, and hopefully he doesn’t want to be a cop anymore," she also stated.

At her arraignment on Friday, Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Lucy Shephard also revealed that Dula had "admitted to smoking marijuana" and police found marijuana and rolling papers in her car.

Dula was subsequently charged with first-degree attempted assault, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and operating a vehicle while ability impaired by drugs and reckless driving and bail was set at $25,000 by Judge John Zhuo Wang. The bail suggested by DA Shephard was $100,000.

Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry questioned why the woman was not charged with attempted murder. "She tried to run down and kill a New York City police officer. She proudly admits it, but she still isn’t facing the maximum penalty. This kind of leniency has led to thousands of police officers being attacked and injured," he said.

"We’re not going to let this case become just another statistic,” Henry added. “We will be following up to ensure that a message is sent: if you attack and injure a New York City police officer, you are going to face the full force of the law."

The officer that was hit by Dula suffered a broken leg and bruising on his body.
