"The only retired official I know of that gets this kind of treatment is a former president."
According to documents obtained by Fox News' Jesse Watters Primetime from the US Marshals Service through a Freedom of Information Act request, US Marshals took over the responsibility of Fauci’s security from the Department of Health & Human Services at the start of 2023. Perks of security for Fauci reportedly include transportation by limousine.
According to Watters, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) sent a letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra in June requesting more information about Fauci's current employment status and taxpayer-funded perks.
Paul told Watters Monday night on Fox News, "HHS actually came back to us and said they haven't been paying for it since January. But then we discovered that Fox did a Freedom of Information Act and a judge forced them to say that, well, while HHS wasn't directly funding it, the US Marshals were funding it."
The Senator added that he was told by federal officials that they were not on the hook for the payments because "somebody else is doing it and then we're reimbursing them."
Paul added, "It's a terrible example of the government lying to its representatives and to the people. But also, why is a retired guy, the only retired official I know of that gets this kind of treatment is a former president.”
"So I have no idea why this bureaucrat still has a limo driver security detail," he continued and also questioned if Fauci also gets pro bono legal representation in retirement stating that the bureaucrat may need it one day.
Paul also noted that Fauci's wealth had increased by 30 percent during the pandemic, and as a result, he should be able to afford his own security without the help of taxpayers.
When he retired, Fauci was the highest-paid employee of the federal government by the end of his 54-year career.
It was also recently revealed that Fauci—who is currently enjoying a pension of over $400,000 a year following his retirement—will be joining Georgetown University as a "distinguished" professor in the School of Medicine's Department of Medicine.
