While Hunter Biden pled guilty to two federal misdemeanor counts of failing to pay his taxes as part of a plea deal reached with the US Attorney for Delaware, President Joe Biden previously stated that his son had done nothing wrong.

The president said in May: “First of all, my son’s done nothing wrong. I trust him. I have faith in him. And it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him.”

Hunter Biden's attorney, Chris Clark, said in a statement concerning the tax crimes: "With the announcement of two agreements between my client, Hunter Biden, and the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Delaware, it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter has been resolved."

"Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement. A firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement, will also be filed by the Government. I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward.”

As a result, US Attorney David Weiss has recommended probation Biden as a consequence of the tax crimes.

The president’s words about his son also come in light of accusations that the Biden family had taken at least $10 million in bribes from Ukrainian energy giant Burisma for assistance relieving them of the woes of an investigation into their shady practices in that country as well as help breaking into the US energy market.

In June, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene read the FBI’s FD-1023 form, which alleged that there existed a bribery scheme that involved Biden during his days as vice president. The form also revealed that payments were made to the Biden family by Burisma, a Ukrainian oil company. Hunter Biden sat on the board of the company.

Greene said: “Back in 2015/2016, Burisma was looking to buy a US-based oil and gas company, and this came from being advised by Hunter Biden and his partners. Biden said [Viktor] Shokin was corrupt. This was around the time of this meeting, [which] was when Joe Biden, as vice president, said that prosecutor Shokin was corrupt.”

Shortly after these revelations, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), while speaking on the Senate Floor, said that a Burisma executive cited in the FBI 1023 form that alleged a bribery scheme that Biden, then vice president, kept 17 audio recordings of his conversations as an “insurance policy.”

Grassley noted that the Burisma executive had 15 audio recordings between him and Hunter Biden, and the other two were between him and Joe Biden.
