Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) on Wednesday said that after Hurricane Helene ripped through the southeast region of the United States, bodies are going to be turning up for months. At least 215 people have died in the aftermath of the storm and hundreds are still unaccounted for.

The Florida congressman gave an update on his third day in North Carolina, trying to help out where disaster has struck Americans across the state, and went to help out in Pensacola, North Carolina, a remote area of the state.

"I talked to their fire chief there, Mr. Harrison. He unfortunately reported that they had four fatalities, two more that [are] unaccounted for that washed down the river. And he believes that they're going to be recovering bodies for the next couple of months due to the amount of landslides in the area."

Mills added that he was able help out with some health and welfare checks in Burnsville, North Carolina, and assist in rationing and supplies distribution in Ashville. "We've brought in about five tons of food, and we've actually transferred probably another 1,000 to 1,500 out of the Asheville Distribution Center into other areas," he added.

Although Mills has been on the ground helping out, he highlighted how the Biden-Harris administration has slowed down the progress on the ground with Biden flying into the area. "Unfortunately, one of the things that occurred today that slowed down our progress is that President Biden decided to go ahead and do a fly-in today," Mills said, adding that the administration put a temporary flight restriction around the area, meaning "no helicopters and no planes have any access or any capability to fly."

"So, it took four hours. They were grounded. Search and rescue was grounded," Mills added. "Distribution of food and supplies was grounded. And so, this, in my opinion, was irresponsible. And if FEMA is going to not show up and the federal government is going to delay up to a week to be here, at least don't stop the operations by the civilians and organizations like Mercury One, like Universal Air, like Sentinel Foundation, ... Samaritan's Purse, who are trying to do the right things in lieu of federal government assistance."

Many others have slammed the Biden-Harris administration as well as FEMA for the response to the storm. FEMA has also said that it does not have enough funds to last the season after it paid for the shelters of illegal immigrants earlier in the year.
