The Ford government announced that the emergency pandemic inspired protocols will remain in place until July 22, per the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

The government stated that the decision was made in an effort to ensure the safety of those in the province as more businesses begin to reopen and people return to the workplace, according to Global News.

Ontario is currently in Stage 2 of their reopening plan.

"Our government is getting Ontario back on track and more people back to work but at the same time taking steps to ensure we don't undo the tremendous progress we have made together," Premier Doug Ford said.

"By keeping these emergency measures in place, we will continue to support our front-line care providers, protect our most vulnerable and ensure we can rapidly respond to potential outbreaks or surges."

Ontario initially declared a state of emergency in mid-March, which remains in effect until July 15. Government officials mentioned on Wednesday the possibility of moving the provincial state of emergency back to July 24.

Though the Ford government cannot install new emergency protocols once one ends, they can extend existing protocols.
