Details were revealed on Monday regarding NYC's new "Key to NYC" plan, the first comprehensive "vaccine passport" initiative in a major city in the United States.

As of Sept. 13 2021 the order will start to be enforced, but the order, which NYC mayor Bill De Blasio has called "the shape of things to come," actually goes into effect on Tuesday, Aug. 17 2021.

In order to have access to certain indoor venues in NYC, people will be required to show proof of vaccination via either the NYC "COVID Safe" app and the New York State "Excelsior Pass." In lieu of the apps, the hard copy of a CDC-produced vaccination card or a photo of such will be accepted.

According to Axios, this is the list of the venues which will require presenting proof of full vaccination in order to enter them:

Indoor Venues:

  • Movie theaters
  • Live music
  • Concert venues
  • Museum and galleries
  • Aquariums and zoos
  • Professional sports arenas
  • Stadiums
  • Convention centers
  • Exhibition halls
  • Performing arts theaters
  • Bowling alleys
  • Arcades
  • Pool and billiard halls
  • Recreational game centers
  • Casinos
  • Adult entertainment

Indoor dining:

  • Restaurants
  • Catering halls
  • Event spaces
  • Hotel banquet rooms
  • Bars
  • Cabarets
  • Nightclubs
  • Cafeterias
  • Grocery stores with indoor dining
  • Bakeries
  • Coffee shops
  • Fast food with indoor dining

Indoor fitness:

  • Gyms
  • Fitness centers
  • Fitness classes
  • Pools
  • Indoor studios
  • Dance studios
  • Sports Classes

Those who continue to choose not to get the vaccined, or those who refuse to show proof of their medical status, will soon find themselves completely shut out of the above venues.

In addition, the city of New York has now made vaccination a requirement of continued employment by all municipal workers, whereas previously only health workers had that requirement.

Vaccination rates have stagnated across the US in recent months.
