A fundraiser launched for an elderly California Target worker who was berated by a customer for wearing a Charlie Kirk shirt is quickly approaching $100,000, just hours after video of the encounter went viral on social media.
In the video taken by healthcare worker Michelea Ponce, she was heard calling the Target employee "racist" and "stupid." The woman had been wearing a shirt that honored the late Turning Point USA founder. "Are you f*cking stupid? You support a racist!" the woman said as she filmed the elderly employee. The worker later replied, "He is not a racist, that's your opinion. Have a nice day."
As of Wednesday morning, the GiveSendGo fundraiser has brought in over $75,000 in donations. Cassandra MacDonald, who launched the fundraiser on Tuesday afternoon, wrote, "we are hoping to raise enough money so that she can afford a much-needed vacation. A time for her to relax, recharge and just forget about the ugliness. Please help us send this incredible woman on an unforgettable trip where she gets some peace of mind amidst all that has transpired, or even just let her splurge for Christmas. Whatever she needs."
The woman being confronted in the video has been identified as Jeanie. The woman filming, Ponce, is reportedly an employee of Enloe Health, which revealed on social media that the Chico Police Department was investigating the incident and the hospital was conducting an internal investigation.
"The Chico Police Department is investigating a social media post on the personal account of an Enloe Health employee. We are deeply concerned about the tenor of this post and the response it is creating from individuals of all political persuasions. We ask for patience and calm as we conduct our own internal investigation of this matter. In the meantime, we are relying on the expertise of the Chico Police Department to investigate any potential criminal activity or threats related to it."
The Target worker has received an outpouring of support on social media, with commentator Benny Johnson saying in regards to the fundraiser’s progress, "absolutely incredible. God Bless her. She deserves every penny."
Independent journalist Caleb Parke wrote, "this Leftwing Karen’s bullying of a hardworking, innocent elderly woman makes my blood boil."
Students for Trump founder Ryan Fournier wrote, "ths is how we fight back against these insane soulless animals."
