"I’m sure it’s a total coincidence that one of Baby2Baby’s Co-CEOs, Norah Weinstein, sits on the board of Gavin Newsom’s wife’s California Partners Project."
Newsom made the announcement for the diapers ahead of Mother's Day, this upcoming Sunday. "California is taking on the cost of raising a family head-on — delivering free school meals, making preschool free for every four-year-old, expanding after-school programs, and now making sure parents leave the hospital with the basics their newborn needs. Every baby born in California deserves a healthy start in life – and that means making sure parents have the basics they need from day one," Newsom said in a statement.
Newsom rolled out the effort on Friday, and under the program, hospitals will distribute 400 diapers directly to parents when they are discharged from the hospital. The program will prioritize low-income families that are on Medi-Cal and others.
However, critics pointed out that Norah Weinstein, a Co-CEO of Baby2Baby, is on the board of the California Partners Project, which is an organization started by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of the governor.

The Co-CEO of @baby2baby is Norah Weinstein Norah Weinstein sits on the board of Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s California Partners Project, a "nonprofit" focused on supporting children and families. They will be getting rich off diapers while California smells like dirty diapers."
X account Kevin Dalton said in response, "Gavin Newsom just announced a shiny new taxpayer funded program giving free diapers to newborns leaving California hospitals and his administration is partnering with Baby2Baby with almost $20 MILLION in state funds to manufacture them. I’m sure it’s a total coincidence that one of Baby2Baby’s Co-CEOs, Norah Weinstein, sits on the board of Gavin Newsom’s wife’s California Partners Project. There is nothing that Gavin Newsom can’t grift."
