The mother of the 14-year-old boy who opened fire at a High School in Georgia last week reportedly warned the school of an "extreme emergency" before the attack occurred.

On Wednesday morning, Colt Gray, the 14-year-old suspect, carried out his shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, where he killed four individuals and injured another nine.

Authorities stated that the shooting began around 10:20 am however, according to the New York Times, his mother, Marcee Gray, had called the school earlier at 9:50 am to alert them to an imminent danger. Her sister, Annie Brown, revealed that Marcee had contacted a school counselor to convey her concerns, though it remains unclear what specifically prompted her to make that call.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that Marcee Gray did indeed call the school prior to the shooting. Call logs showed a 10-minute conversation between Marcee and the school. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is currently handling the case, declined to comment on the call or its content as of Saturday.

The revelation has added to the growing criticism over how the situation was handled. After the shooting, the FBI disclosed that over a year ago, it had referred a threat involving a potential shooting at the school to the local sheriff’s office. That threat had been traced back to Colt Gray, who was 13 at the time and denied making these comments. Investigators determined they could not link Gray to these posts and subsequently ended the investigation.

In addition to Colt Gray's arrest, his father, Colin Gray, has also been taken into custody. Authorities allege that he was aware that his son was "a threat to himself and others" and still allowed him access to the rifle used in the shooting.
