Colin Gray was charged with 4 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter, 2 counts of Second Degree Murder, and 8 counts of Cruelty to Children.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that the elder Gray was "charged with the following: - 4 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter - 2 counts of Second Degree Murder - 8 counts of Cruelty to Children."
As part of the investigation into the shooting, authorities have found writing in Gray's bedroom that referenced the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida in 2018. It was also reported by CNN that Gray had been experiencing a "tumultuous family life in the years leading up to the deadly attack."
Gray's parents had been separating and there was a difficult custody dispute. Each parent, CNN reports, had called law enforcement on each other and there was housing instability as well, with the family being evicted from their home. Gray's mother was arrested, as well, for damaging Colin Gray's car as well as drug possession. Colin Gray has been accused by family members of being "verbally abusive."
"He was just a good kid, but he lived in an environment that was hostile," Charles Polhamus, Colt Gray's grandfather, told CNN. "His dad beat up on him, I mean, I’m not talking about physical, but screaming and hollering, and he did the same thing to my daughter."
Colt Gray, 14, will appear before a judge on Friday morning after being charged with four felony murder counts. The shooting was carried out on Wednesday. Gray was a student at Apalachee High School. Autopsies of the victims were performed on Thursday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's medical examiner.
In addition to the four deaths, nine others were injured. The victims have been identified as students Christian Angulo, 14, and Mason Schermerhorn, 14, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.

The school shooting at Apalachee High School could have been prevented with the laws that are currently on the books. This kid was a known problem, prone to violence. Laws are in place to deal with this. Yet no steps were taken. This was not a failure of the law. It was a failure to utilize existing tools to prevent this tragedy. So, go ahead and pass yet more gun-control laws that aren't enforced and ignored by the wack-jobs and criminals.
