"A writ of election is hereby issued to the Secretary of State for a special election to be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, to fill the vacancy."

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has set March 10 as the upcoming special election in the state in order to fill the seat left vacant by Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in the House after the lawmaker resigned at the beginning of 2026. Greene stepped down after representing her district for five years in Congress after becoming opposed to Trump on a number of topics.

"A vacancy now exists in Georgia's 14th Congressional District for the United States House of Representatives due to the resignation of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene," Kemp said in the order.

"Therefore, pursuant to Code Section 21-2-543, a writ of election is hereby issued to the Secretary of State for a special election to be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, to fill the vacancy in Georgia's 14th Congressional District for the United States House of Representatives," Kemp added.

With Greene leaving Congress as well as the death of California GOP Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) to start the year, the majority of the GOP in the House has come to 218 to 213, an effective 2-vote margin. With Thomas Massie often opposing Trump's agenda, that majority is more often a 1-vote margin.

Greene’s resignation has sparked a crowded field of political candidates, per ABC 7. Those running, because of special election rules, will be without a primary and all will be on the ballot regardless of party. If none of the candidates get the required votes, a runoff will take place with the candidates with the top two highest vote counts.

So far, multiple people have flooded the race, including Democrat Shaw Harris. GOP candidate Clay Fuller also announced that he would run in the election. "I served in President Trump’s Administration during his first term, I am ready to answer the call again," Fuller said.

The candidate who wins the seat will be up for reelection in November 2026, at the end of the current Congressional term.
