President Donald Trump said he would “love” to see Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene return to politics, even as the two were embroiled in a public feud that led to Greene announcing she will resign from Congress.

On Saturday, Trump told NBC News in a phone interview that “It’s not going to be easy for her” to continue her career in politics, but added, “I’d love to see that.” He said that for now, Greene has “got to take a little rest.”

Greene announced she would resign from Congress in January. She has long been a staunch supporter of the president, although her criticism of the Trump administration has grown in recent weeks. She has focused primarily on American foreign policy, particularly the US support of Israel, arguing that the country is too focused on foreign affairs and not doing enough to prioritize Americans.

Greene has also pushed for more government transparency regarding Jeffrey Epstein, calling for the release of the Epstein files. Trump had previously opposed releasing them, but he has since changed course and expressed support for making the information public.

During the feud, Trump has called Greene a “traitor” and pulled his support for her re-election. According to NBC News, a source close to Greene said she believed she would still win re-election if she chose to run, and that her decision to resign was driven more by backlash and threats she has received.

“She very much looks forward to one day go out in public and not be harassed in restaurants and airports and be on the face of every TV channel,” the source said. “It’s safe to say she’ll probably take a step back and be a private, normal person again.”
