"Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth, she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon."
In a Saturday post on X, Mickelson said, “Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth, she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon.” His comments come after a CNN appearance in which Omar stood by the description of Kirk as “Dr. Frankenstein” who was “killed by his monster.”
During that interview, host Kaitlan Collins pressed Omar about the backlash. “What I find jarring,” Omar said, “is that there’s so many people willing to excuse the most reprehensible things that he said, that they agree with that, that they’re willing to have monuments for him, that they want to create a day to honor him, and that they want to produce resolutions in the House of Congress honoring his life and legacy.”
She continued, saying “I am not going to sit here and be judged for not wanting to honor any legacy this man has left behind, that should be in the dustbin of history, and we should hopefully move on and forget the hate that he spewed every day.”
Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion, has commented repeatedly on Kirk’s assassination in Utah on September 10. On Wednesday, he reposted Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-SC) statement calling for Omar to be censured in the House, and two days earlier he shared an interview with Mace, captioned, “More of this please.” Mace herself wrote online, “We would love to see you deported back to Somalia next.”
Omar survived a censure attempt in Congress last week, but the calls for political consequences have not slowed since her comments about Kirk.
