During the Lincoln dinner in Iowa Friday, 2024 Republican Presidential Candidate Will Hurd got booed after going after former President Donald Trump.

In his statement, Hurd said that Trump is only "running to stay out of prison."

After waiting for the boos to calm down he said, "Listen, I know the truth, the truth is hard, but if we elect Donald Trump, we are willingly giving Joe Biden four more years in the White House."

Hurd used the moment to ask for donations on Twitter. "I went to Iowa and told the truth. Some folks didn’t like it and some did," he said. "If you want to see a leader on the debate stage telling the truth to Trump’s face, give me at least $1 to qualify."

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump responded to the allegations with, “In Iowa last night I noticed that a little known, failed former Congressman, Will Hurd, is ridiculously running for President.” He added, "He got SERIOUSLY booed off the stage when he said I was running 'to stay out of jail.' Wrong, if I wasn’t running, or running and doing badly (like him & Christie!), with no chance to win, these prosecutions would never have been brought or happened!”

According to Politico, Hurd was not the only candidate to mention the indictments against Donald Trump. Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said, “You will be voting in Iowa, while multiple criminal cases are pending against Donald Trump. Iowa has an opportunity to say: ‘We as a party, we need a new direction for America and for the GOP.'”

In another post on Truth Social, the former president responded, “Don’t weak people like ‘Aida’ Hutchinson... know or understand that the Prosecution of Donald Trump is an Election Interference Hoax, just like Russia, Russia, Russia, or the Fake Dossier, and that he is playing right into Marxists hands when I am leading the R's by 50 Points and leading Biden BIG!”

Former President Donald Trump is currently under indictment on one charge in New York for allegedly paying hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels, and one federal case for allegedly mishandling classified documents. Earlier this month he announced that he is a "target" for a grand jury investigation into January 6th. Now, Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to announce whether she will bring charges against the former president for interference in the 2020 election.
