During the first debate ahead of the March 5 primary for one of the seats representing California in the US Senate, Republican Steve Garvey called out Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff for lying to the American people.

While sparring over who would be the best candidate to fill the seat of the late Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who passed away in September, Garvey, a former star of the Los Angeles Dodgers, called out Schiff for pushing the Russian Collusion hoax against former President Donald Trump.

Garvey said to Schiff, "I believe you were censured for lying."

Schiff replied, "I was censured for standing up to a corrupt president."

The two spoke over each other as Schiff said that he stood by his actions and would “do it again,” to which Garvey retorted, "Sir, you lied to 300 million people and you can't take that back.”

Schiff led the effort to impeach the former president over false claims about Donald Trump’s connections to Russia.

In June, the House voted along party lines to censure Schiff.

Schiff was previously booted from the House Intelligence Committee, in part due to his failures to understand or factually parse the intelligence he reviewed regarding Russia collusion.

Democratic Reps. Katie Porter and Barbara Lee were also featured in the debate.

The top two finishers in the primary in California, regardless of party, advance to the November general election. Republicans failed to advance in 2016 and 2018.
