GOP senators, House reps, call for Biden's removal under 25th Amendment

"Never been a stronger case for the 25th amendment than right now."

Several Republican Senators and House members have called for the removal of President Joe Biden under the 25th Amendment after revelations about his "poor memory" from Thursday's Special Counsel report on the president's handling of classified documents that went public on Thursday.

Immediately following the release of the report, Biden had several other mental slips Thursday night while addressing the issue in a press conference.

Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) were among the first GOP Senators to address the matter.

Lee quote posted a section of the report from Special Counsel Robert Hur, which said that Biden could not remember when he became nor when he stopped being vice president. Lee added, "If ever there were a time to invoke the 25th Amendment, wouldn’t that time be now?"

Hawley posted to X, "Merrick Garland has a duty to invoke the 25th Amendment to his fellow Cabinet members. Or prosecute Biden. If he won’t prosecute, then invoke the 25th now."

Republican representatives in the House, as well, began to release calls to relieve Biden of his office due to his mental capabilities. Rep. Claudia Tenny, who sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, wrote, "It is incumbent upon you to explore proceedings to remove the President pursuant to the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution."

"President Biden needs to be charged, or he needs to be removed." She added, "There is no middle ground."

A main reason that Hur believed a jury would not charge Biden and declined to prosecute the case was because, as he wrote, "Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

Hur added this would provide "reasonable doubt" for jurors who would not convict in the case.

Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) posted on X her call to remove the president.

"Joe Biden must resign. He could not remember basic facts about his life. He is not competent to remain as Commander-in-Chief & every day that he remains, he puts America at risk. If he won't resign, the Cabinet must invoke the 25th Amendment," she wrote.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene also reacted online to the report with a similar sentiment.

"The Special Counsel’s report exposing that Joe Biden’s mental decline is so severe that he can not stand trial means he is unfit for office. We must demand either the 25th amendment be invoked or impeachment."

Other representatives who called for the removal of Biden under the 25th Amendment as of Friday afternoon included Reps. William Timmons (R-SC), Mike Collins (R-GA), and Ronny Jackson (R-TX).
