Gwyneth Paltrow's dinner to honor OpenAI's Sam Altman at the Hamptons nixed after backlash: report

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly postponed a dinner party in the Hamptons to honor OpenAI founder Sam Altman after there has been anti-AI backlash against the event.

Paltrow sent out an invitation to the tech founder, according to a report from the New York Times. The dinner was set to take place on Saturday at Paltrow's Amagansett, New York home until backlash ensued.

A copy of the invitation was published at Puck, and the online response was swift to condemn Paltrow for the actions. Writers and actors accused Paltrow of honoring a man whose company may put writers and actors out of business.

Leftist TikToker Matt Bernstein said that Paltrow was using her position to cozy up to the "evil" of AI and "technofascism" being brought about by Altman. The dinner was reportedly killed on Friday.

On Threads, one user wrote on Threads, "Really drives home the fact that her organic, chemical-free, homemade food aesthetic was always about being elitist first and foremost. Sam Altman is literally poisoning the water, babe."

"I don't think she really cares how she's perceived politically. She's part of the 'billionaire class' and she enjoys it," another user added.

Paltrow responded to the backlash by posting a series of parody invitations to her Instagram account, saying that she was holding a dinner in honor of various characters, including M3gan, Jessica Rabbit, Shrek, Samantha Jones and the viral character Chanty Beluga.

“We’re serving swordfish burritos, Cheddar foam lattes on request,” the parody invites said. However, she did not deny that the dinner was going to take place.

According to two people who spoke to the Times, she made an investment in Altman's company in 2023 through Kinship Ventures.
