Kamala Harris reaches out to Mamdani following DSA wins ahead of potential 2028 presidential run

After wins across the country for the far-left Democratic Socialists of America, Axios reports on Wednesday that former VP Kamala Harris, who is likely interested in making a new run for the White House, has been chatting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Harris failed to gain the presidency in 2024 after her boss Joe Biden quit and left her holding the bag for the failing Democrat Party's quest to earn a second term.

Harris apparently called Mamdani last week following his slate of candidates' wins in New York City. Mamdani backed Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier in Democrat House primaries and they all won. DSA candidate Melat Kiros won on Tuesday night in Denver, ousting a long-standing Democrat rep for Colorado's 1st District. These candidates all have hatred of Israel in common and a yen to see socialized services from the federal government including health care, childcare, and housing.

During her run for president, Harris was fouled up by questions on Israel and Gaza. Biden had been an advocate for Israel, but Harris saw her party leaning further left of the president and offered garbled responses to questions about Israel's right to self-defense and false allegations of genocide against the US ally. Israel was attacked by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023 and Chevalier, among others in the DSA, cheered that massacre of 1,200 people. Israel had pulled their military forces out of Gaza in 2005 and Hamas took over, funneling aid funds to create weapons and eventually plan a massive attack.

Harris was accused of refusing to have a Palestinian advocate speak at the 2024 Democratic National Convention and the issue has become a litmus test for leftist politicians. Over Pride weekend, far-left Democrat House hopeful Scott Wiener was heckled out of the San Francisco Trans March after having attended it for 22 straight years. In January, he had turned away from his support of Israel and agreed with the leftists that Israel was committing genocide in their quest to wipe out their neighboring terrorists.

Abbas Alawieh, co-founder of the Uncommitted Movement which criticized Harris over her refusal to condemn Israel in 2024, met with her in Detroit last week. Alawieh is running for the Michigan state Senate. He told Axios that in speaking to Harris he "reiterated my longstanding position that American tax dollars should never be used to target civilians or destroy entire communities."
