Wolfe, 24, was shot at point-blank range in Washington, DC the day before Thanksgiving.

During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi delivered an update on behalf of the family of National Guard officer Andrew Wolfe, who has been in critical condition at the hospital since he was shot last week. The suspect in the case, an Afghan national by the name of Rahmanullah Lakanwa, has been charged with shooting Wolfe as well as charged for the murder of National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, who died on Thanksgiving.

Addressing President Donald Trump, Bondi said, "Andy is doing well. His parents, Melody and Jason, wanted me to tell you, and I was with them yesterday in the hospital. He's a miracle. I was there when the surgeons came in and they wanted you to know this. He's a miracle. And if everyone in this country can continue to pray for that family, he's got a long road ahead of them, but he is a miracle."

She then added that the Department of Justice will ensure that the "monster will be held accountable who did this."

Wolfe, 24, was shot at point-blank range in Washington, DC the day before Thanksgiving. Beckstrom was also shot, but died the next day after surgery. Lakanwa, the suspect charged with the shooting, is being held on murder and other charges.

In the days following the shooting, updates from Melody Wolfe encouraged the nation to continue to pray for her son and with each update, he has appeared to be in better and better condition. In an update issued by officials on Monday, the West Virginia Governor said that Wolfe responded to nurses with a thumbs up when they asked if he could respond.

He remains in critical condition and has been fighting for his life. After speaking with Wolfe's parents, Trump said, “Andrew is fighting for his life. And his parents are unbelievably great people, highly religious people, and they're praying," later adding that his parents were remaining positive about his outlook.

Trump also spoke to Beckstrom's parents and said that they have been "devastated" after their daughter was murdered.
