“It is a wild and terrifying story that serves as a stark warning of what is to come as some of the same Republicans who targeted Hunter prepare to resume power," said a lawyer for Hunter Biden.

Lawyers representing Hunter Biden aren’t giving up yet on a pardon from President Joe Biden, even as he approaches the last days of his administration. Hunter’s counsel continue to claim that their client has been the victim of “political prosecutions,” The New York Post reported Sunday. Joe Biden has indicated on several occasions that he has no intent of providing a presidential pardon or commutation.

Abbe Lowell, Hunter’s chief counsel, has again said that Hunter’s two criminal convictions are a result of political pressure and Republican attempts to discredit Joe Biden, who was the Democratic presidential nominee until being ousted by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other party bosses.

“This is a seven-year saga propelled by an unrelenting political desire to use a son to hurt his father,” Lowell said in a statement about the claim, which was first obtained by The Washington Post.

“It is a wild and terrifying story that serves as a stark warning of what is to come as some of the same Republicans who targeted Hunter prepare to resume power and have stated their intention to use the government’s vast power to pursue their perceived enemies,” Lowell claimed.

Hunter Biden pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court on Thursday to nine tax evasion charges, three of which are felonies. According to the Daily Mail, Judge Mark Scarsi informed Hunter that his sentence could be as high as 17 years in prison with over $1 million in fines when convicted on all counts.

At the time of Biden’s guilty plea, Lowell claimed his client was just anxious to save his family from continued legal grief and let the matter be settled.

A jury also found Biden guilty on three counts of possessing a firearms while addicted to illegal drugs, The Post noted.

Biden is scheduled to be sentenced for the gun convictions on Dec. 12 and the tax conviction on Dec. 16. Hunter is slated to face sentencing for the gun case Dec. 12 and for the tax case Dec. 16.

Hunter’s defense team’s “wild and terrifying story” is a 52-page memo and called a “The political prosecutions of Hunter Biden,” according to The Post. The document purports to tell the “complete and reprehensible history of the political persecution of Hunter Biden.” It argues that “a system that is supposed to protect against abuses failed to do so and was corrupted by political leaders in this country.”

“As a result, Hunter faces significant sentences for felonies and misdemeanors far beyond precedents of others committing less serious offenses or where civil resolutions or consent judgments are normally sought — all on the basis of his mistakes, made while in the throes of serious drug addiction.”

Recently, a senior writer at Politico went to bat for Hunter Biden, suggesting that Joe Biden should at the very least issue a commutation of Biden’s sentence in an act of presidential “mercy.” Ankush Khardori wrote, “Thanks to President Joe Biden’s Justice Department, Donald Trump is headed to the White House, and his son Hunter might be headed to prison.”
