One illegal immigrant was detained outside the Democracy Center at the Japanese American National Museum in downtown Los Angeles, where Governor Gavin Newsom announced California’s plans for redistricting efforts.

Footage showed Border Patrol agents taking a man away in handcuffs. US Border Patrol Sector Commander Gregory K. Bovino told NBC 4 that Border Patrol was conducting immigration patrols in the area and took one person into custody. He said that the man was in the country illegally.

Newsom spoke on the federal immigration enforcement outside during his event, telling the crowd, "Where are we? At the Democracy Center, and right outside, at this exact moment, dozens and dozens of ICE agents. Donald Trump, you think it’s coincidental? Donald Trump’s minions, Tom Homan, tough guy, decided, coincidentally or not, that this was a location to advance ICE arrests."

Governor Gavin Newsom's press office wrote in response to the agents outside the rally, in all caps, "Trump's private army is illegally on private property!!!! We will not be intimidated by this weak little man!!!

Mayor Karen Bass said, "There is no way this was a coincidence. There was no reason in the world for them to come here. This is a complete provocation. This has nothing to do with safety. This is the exact opposite of keeping our city safe."

When asked about the timing of the law enforcement presence, Bovino said, "Breaking the law is not coincidental. Breaking the law is breaking the law."
