The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) team arrested an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who was wanted for child molestation in Providence, Rhode Island.

According to ICE, the man was arrested by Providence police in March 2023 and charged with felony child molestation. The ERO Boston division lodged an immigration detainer against him to prevent him from being released.

In April 2023, the Adult Correctional Institute of Cranston, RI ignored the detention request and released the man into the public at the order of the Sixth District Court of Providence.

"This Guatemalan national has disregarded US immigration laws and has been charged with horrific crimes against a Rhode Island child," ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons said. "We will continue to apprehend and remove egregious offenders who prey on the most vulnerable in our society. The men and women of ERO Boston remain dedicated to the safety of the residents of our New England communities."

The man will remain in ICE custody while awaiting a removal trial with a federal immigration judge with the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR).

"RI is a sanctuary state," Libs of TikTok said when reporting the story. "He was finally just arrested for his crimes after being free for almost a year. Who knows how many other crimes he committed after the woke RI courts released him?"

The ERO arrested 73,822 illegal immigrants with a criminal history in 2023. According to the agency, each of those arrested had an average of four charges and convictions. Of those, 33,209 had charges or convictions for assault, 1,713 for homicide-related offenses, and 1,615 for kidnapping.

In the same year, the Biden administration had more illegal immigrants come across the southern border than ever recorded. There were 2.4 million people who were apprehended at the border, and that doesn't include those who got in unabated.
